No matter how many search engines one uses, no matter how many libraries one visits, no matter how many Forums one asks, the question always seems to remain the same: What is the Bible trying to say when it uses the word 'Cornerstone'. It's just another Rock for Heaven's sake, and Jesus was a wood carpenter anyway. Those goofy Freemasons with their absurd and ridiculous rites and rituals aren't going to be any help either. Half of them still think that Cornerstone and a Capstone MEAN THE SAME THING!

- 1 Peter 2:6-7
"On what were its footings set, or who laid its Cornerstone?
ReplyDelete- Job 38:6"
" Definition of Cornerstone:
2. a stone representing the nominal starting place in the construction of a monumental building, usu. carved with the date.
3. something that is essential or basic.
4. the foundation on which something is constructed or developed.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/cornerstone"
In this way it is clear God is challenging Job to give God a higher understanding of the origins of the creation of the world in which he lives. He asks him on what the first rocks of this planet were created, how it was measured and come into creation, and the cornerstone in this instance simply refers to "a stone representing the nominal starting place in the construction of a monumental building"
"The stone the builders rejected has become the Cornerstone.
- Psalm 118:22"
The "Stone" is Christ himself that has become the Cornerstone of Christianity. He was rejected by the builders, the people who built the temple devoted to God in the land that God had promised them and gave to them, that they themselves did not take of their own skill and accord. A cornerstone here refers to "3. something that is essential or basic." and
"4. the foundation on which something (Christianity in itself) is constructed or developed."
"Our sons shall be as plants grown up in their youth, and our daughters as Cornerstones built after the fashion of a palace.
- Psalm 144:12"
In this one, the word cornerstone is also translated into "Then our sons in their youth
will be like well-nurtured plants,
and our daughters will be like pillars
carved to adorn a palace."

ReplyDeleteIn this context, I can only take it, in the same context as a body of christians, and each individual christian themselves being referred to as a temple of The Lord. In this way, it seems David is singing that the Lord defeats his enemies, and now David's sons and daughters, and the sons and daughters of God's people as a whole will be raised under God and become like a cornerstone or column built or carved into the fashion of a palace. Well if a single christian is a temple for the Lord, and it is built or carved in the fashion of a palace, than that can only mean we are made in the image of God, under the hand and direction of Him.
"The leaders of Memphis are deceived, the Cornerstones of her peoples have led Egypt astray.
- Isaiah 19:13"
At first glance this seems to indicate the leaders being referred to by cornerstone, but read the whole passage, even in NIV and this is what you get.
"2 Where are your wise men now?
Let them show you and make known
what the Lord Almighty
has planned against Egypt.
13 The officials of Zoan have become fools,
the leaders of Memphis are deceived;
the cornerstones of her peoples
have led Egypt astray.
14 The Lord has poured into them
a spirit of dizziness;
they make Egypt stagger in all that she does,
as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit.
15 There is nothing Egypt can do—
head or tail, palm branch or reed."
Now you will ask why that is significant, Cornerstone is used there as well, well I point out 1, that it is clear the peoples there have rejected God, so God is now against them. They are being cursed by God with foolishness and being spun around.
This makes it abundantly clear then that God has completely turned against Egypt that they have served as an example.
New King James Version:
" 13 The princes of Zoan have become fools;
The princes of Noph[b] are deceived;
They have also deluded Egypt,
Those who are the mainstay of its tribes."
Definition as per that very same definition page first link:
" Mainstay:
1. a person or thing that acts as a chief support or part."
It is very clear then, that the cornerstone of Egypt is the leaders themselves. This passage is declaring that those people have aroused God to anger against them, and he has taken the leaders that are the foundation of their Nation, and reduced them to fools and they will be humbled.
So what is a capstone?
